then by car to Roanoke Virginia, Columbus Ohio, Fort Wayne Indiana,
Chicago Illinois, and Des Moines Iowa. They flew from Des
Moines to Los Angeles where they visited friends and family.
They flew back to Des Moines and drove back to Danville via
Cynthiana Kentucky. Quite an agenda! |

1947: Walter and Mary were able to purchase their first home at 105
Sunset Drive in Danville, Virginia and move in as soon as they
returned from their honeymoon. The G.I. Bill enabled Walter to
buy the $8,000 house with no money down, almost no closing costs,
and modest monthly payments. Neither Walter or Mary's parents
had ever owned their homes, and Mary's parents did not have an
indoor bathroom as this home did. |
